A lovely friend of mine, who just so happens to share my name!, was telling me how much she loves antique roses. Me too. You have to love plants that are tough and beautiful all at the same time! Mine are still just babies. I lost most of my first generation to our horrible drought two years ago, but thanks to all our rain last summer my second generation got all the water they needed and are thriving this year.
Here's Maggie!

May I present Archduke Charles?

This one may be Bon Silene.
I have a few others too: Duchesse de Brabant, Monsieur Tillier, Mrs. B R Cant, Georgetown Tea and Lovers Delite. Apparently I have fallen down on my photo responsibilities. I'll try to get their fresh faces later.
I do have a few hybrid teas. When my mom died, I wanted to have hot pink, fragrant, cutting roses to remember her by. After some wonderful suggestions I ended up bu

ying Pink Peace, Electron and Gertrude Jekyll (not a hybrid!) My mom had enough energy for three women, it took three roses to remember her by. They are all wonderfully fragrant. I think she'd be pleased with my choices.

Gertrude (the hot summer sun is washing out the color, it's a beautiful pink...and a heavenly scent!)

Here's how I use my favorite flowers... those little roses are The Fairy:
