Girls' Weekend -- 4th of July -- Tulsa

Velma and I decided we needed a short getaway. Unfortunately our regular travel buddies couldn't come with us.

You know the most important part of a vacation is a hotel with a pool! As soon as we unloaded the car we headed to the pool. I'm sure you are grateful I spared you the vision of us in swimsuits!!! It was a small pool, but we had it mostly to ourselves, so it was heaven.

After dinner, finding the mall, and Walmart...(although I was forbidden to step foot in there all weekend! ...ha...What IS a vacation with out Walmart??? )...we headed toward the general direction of the Riverside Park.

Our navigational skills are not exactly top notch, but I am really good at turning around! We finally found the general vicinity.

We found a spot on the west side of the river with a small park where people were setting off their own fireworks. It was a little scary to sit underneath major electrical lines and know there were fireworks going off all around :)

It was finally dark and the real show began. I am still trying to work out the kinks in the settings in my new camera.

Saturday was spent doing really exciting things...shopping at the mall, getting our hair cut, ...yes, we went ALL the way to Tulsa to get our hair cut! We spent the late afternoon in the pool. We were finally run out by the hordes of pre-teens that invaded the pool!

Sunday afternoon we visited the Philbrook Museum. It's renowned for its gardens and of course it's art! The museum is located in a beautiful neighborhood, and apparently its address is top secret! We finally found it.

This lovely piece of art is by John Byam Shaw, 1872-1919. Beatrice.

There was also an interesting exhibit where 15 contemporary artists were given five objects: string, a mirror, a bone, a glass and moth. They had to incorporate them into a maximum of two paintings. I really enjoyed a few of them, and the resulting subject matters ran the gamut of the spectrum. I must be getting old...looking at some of them I realized some artists just like painting naked women! Give them any subject matter and a naked woman still pops out!

The house was built as an Italianate villa by oilman Waite Phillips in 1927.

I was quite impressed with how they used Oklahoma friendly plants to create their gardens.
